Self-Care Part 5
We long to accomplish something, but our ego tells us a story of why we cannot.
We dream of making something beautiful come true, but our ego insists we lack the capacity.
We yearn to speak our truth, yet our ego warns that the repercussions would be unbearable.
We desire to live vulnerably and authentically, but the ego insists we be impenetrable.
We want freedom from our dependencies, yet the ego whispers that we cannot live without them.
We hunger for more meaning in life, but our ego says to be content with what is.
And so, instead of moving forward, we can be bound to the same patterns of self-neglect and self-limitation. We believe the familiar story rather than the truth of our potential. After all, the ego has been our protector through many trials. But in believing its story, we forget our innate, transcendent capacities.
These are not the skills we develop at our point of integration—though those traits can balance the ego’s deficits. Beyond them lies something far greater: the soul point, where the lost qualities of our essence abide. These qualities are not personality traits; they are living powers of Spirit.
Too often, we settle for a more proficient ego rather than awakening the soul's transcendent capacities. These divine capacities include being a bright star in the darkness, bringing people together in love, loving the unlovable, enduring persecution, emptying ourselves of self, nurturing a pure heart, embodying truth, healing the deepest wounds, and living from every word that comes from God.
These transcendent qualities are not distant ideals—they can be accessed from beyond us in the here and now. They clarify our divine purpose, offer direct guidance, heal relationships, sharpen discernment, expand presence, and empower us to love completely. They lift us out of the ego’s story and align us with the voice of Love itself. Isn’t it the highest form of self-care to awaken these transcendent qualities? Isn’t it genuine kindness to ourselves to follow our spiritual destiny rather than our ego’s dictates?
Spiritual practice: Ask your soul, who is tethered to the divine, what it can do through you that you cannot do on your own. Pick a quality that you need such patience and inquire of yourself how patience is expressed through your virtue and your Holy Idea. Then consider making a prayer for divine patience.
Self-inquiry: Why would you desire to access your essence qualities?
Prayer:
Dear God, for the transcendent qualities of my soul, I pray. Amen
