The Parade Part 3
When we witness the parade of the Spirit, everything inside us can shift.
The following is a story I quote from a dear friend, ICB guest teacher and author, Kate Finlayson, (Dancing the Enneagram) who lives with her husband, Chris, in North Carolina.
“Last night, Chris and I drove to Siler City to see the Buddhist monks walking from Texas to DC. There were so many cars and people it was truly amazing in this very conservative working-class town. Folks lined the highways and road to the high school (where they would be speaking.) We could not get through. But we pulled into the KFC parking lot, and just then we saw the bright blue lights of the sheriff's car leading them. We jumped out of our car and walked to the highway. So silent as they walked in a straight line with a most amazing presence and pace. My body, my heart, my whole energy shifted in a moment. My soul child felt a sense of grounded inner peace. No expectation, all just me being in the moment of mystery. This morning, I sit with this magic still stirring in my heart and belly. And I feel all that I feel, and the fear is gone.”
Reading Kate’s words reminds me that a sacred parade of the Spirit is unlike any other. It marches by quietly, with sacred intentionality. It enters our body and brings its holy intention into our heart. We witness love in action, the most powerful energy in the universe. We also become part of the movement, though we only witness. Sometimes we weep with the wisdom of happiness.
Spiritual practice: Look at the image accompanying this reflection. Close your eyes and imagine you are watching these monks in their spiritual parade for peace. What feelings are evoked in you?
Self-inquiry: What would draw you to witness such a parade?
Prayer:
Dear God, I pray to one day be in such a parade. Amen
