The Heart Center of Intelligence Part 2
We have all heard the saying, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.” But is this true? The short answer is yes. But why?
When separated from our loved ones, we are not reminded of their daily irritations and faults. These negatives fade in our memory, but one thing remains: the vivid memory of their essence. Love is the strongest power in the cosmos and when we love someone else’s essence, its value grows in us whether we are physically with them or not. Why? Because we have amalgamated them into our souls. Theirs is not only a mental memory from our depths, but one in our hearts and bodies.
The phenomenon of absence making the heart grow fonder also applies to those we have lost. We carry their essence inside of us. And because essence is their fundamental, irreducible identity, we easily forget our irritations with them. The bottom line is, when we love another’s essence, we love their soul. When they love our essence, they love our soul. These powerful bonds are not broken by absence. In fact, our hearts grow even fonder of them!
Spiritual practice: Who has left your daily life, but your affection and love for them are growing stronger?
Self-inquiry: For the people you have had to part with, do you suspect they are growing fonder of you or not?
Prayer:
Dear God, For those loved ones I miss, I am so much fonder of them than I ever was. My essence calls out to be reconnected to their essence. My soul yearns for connection to other souls. I pray to reconnect in ways that you make happen. Amen.
