Deep Dive Part 7

Spiritual introspection is one of the deepest dives we can take. Its essential practice is inquiry, a sincere questioning of ourselves across nine dimensions reflected in the Enneagram of Personality and the Enneagram of Soul. The answers we seek come not from our egos but from our souls.

The inquiry begins with this phrase:

“In my heart, mind, and body, …”

  • Was my intention with that person my highest?

  • Was I seeking to gain or to give?

  • Was my need driven by spirit or by self-image?

  • Did my behavior build confidence in my spiritual identity or not?

  • Was I willing to be seen, or did I hide?

  • Was I motivated by fear or by love?

  • Was I acting from joy or striving to achieve it?

  • Was I influential or overbearing?

  • Was it my desire to be with them, to avoid being with myself?

These questions can be adapted to any circumstance.

Curiosity and the desire for spiritual growth initiate introspection, but honesty is essential. Without self-honesty, the practice loses all power. Rarely does the first answer reach the heart’s depth. It may take several repetitions of the same question before the core truth emerges. When it does, the body confirms it, maybe with a sigh, a tingling, a surge of energy, or a deep inner balance. Something within clicks, and we know: This is it.

To introspect deeply, we must recognize the voice of our inner critic and meet it with compassion. Genuine introspection is never self-condemning. Its aim is not correction but awakening. It is to acknowledge and shift toward our higher self.

Spiritual practice: Take a behavior or attitude that concerns your spiritual well-being. Ask yourself these questions, one by one, again and again. When you reach your core answer, notice how your body responds.

Self-inquiry: Why do you want to reach your core answer?

Prayer:

Dear God, help me take the deep dive into my soul, where I meet You and myself—face to face. Amen.
