Deep Dive Part 3
Taking a deep dive into the spiritual realm requires many ingredients. It begins with curiosity, moves through courage, and inevitably brings challenge. Today, we reflect on the challenge.
Some discoveries in a spiritual deep dive affirm what we have always known… the truths buried within us that surface into consciousness once we encounter them. But other discoveries take us into unfamiliar territory, stretch our understanding, and awaken our souls.
I first encountered the Enneagram through such a deep dive as a young man. I never imagined an ancient spiritual tool could speak powerfully to modern life. The deeper I went, the more I saw that all knowledge, even spiritual life itself, can be understood through its nine universal energies.
Then came the Holy Ideas, offering a new lens through which to view existence. One of these Holy Ideas became my bridge from personality to soul, which is a bridge we must cross. These truths not only expanded my awareness but called me to embody them.
Deeper still, I met the Soul Child, the gateway to our soul's qualities. Each time I re-embody my Soul Child, my ego loses its grip, and I return to the innocent, non-dual purity into which we were born. Yet this return is a daily challenge, for the ego is persistent.
Curiosity led me further, and I soon saw how the Soul could be placed on the Enneagram. The Enneagram of Soul emerged from the nine Soul Children and the Beatitudes. This revelation challenged me to deepen my understanding and relate it to my relationships, growth, and healing.
In time, I learned that the ego is not the enemy. It simply cannot perform the transformative work of the soul. We find true harmony and peace through what I came to call spiritual amalgamation — the joining of the transformed ego under the soul’s guidance. Amalgamating is a constant in the spiritual life.
