Forgiveness Part 7
When we do not want to forgive, we can pray for the power to do so. As reflected upon earlier, prayer can be a vital part of spiritual alchemy, that profound transformation that takes place in our spirit. Prayer changes things, by also changing us. By aligning with the Divine, our thoughts and intentions shift from an egocentric orientation to a soulcentric one; this is a game changer.
The prayer for the power to forgive is for a discontinuance of our resentments, hatred, grudges, and the need for retaliation. First and foremost, the prayer asks for alignment with the Divine and the soul qualities that empower us to forgive. The prayer includes an honest explanation to God concerning our hurt and our negative feelings toward the person or persons who caused that hurt. It consists of the actual results of the other person’s behavior.
Finally, the prayer asks for relief from negative emotions and the power to forgive and release those we have bound to us through hurt and anger. The soul acknowledges that the one who trespassed must also be lifted to the healing light.
Dear God,
I come to you to walk alongside you and I draw close to you, to talk with you, and to unburden myself.
Carrying this burden of resentment and hatred toward__________ (name the person) is too heavy for me. Ever since this _____________ (name the trespass), I have been hurt and resentful. This has turned into suffering and burning anger. I am on the verge of living with hatred every day. These unwanted feelings are growing in my heart. No longer can I hold them.
The hurt _____________ (name) caused me is very difficult to get over. I paid a big price for what they did. They caused the following things to happen in my life: (name all the results of their behavior on you).
My hating______________ (name) does not relieve me; my anger only grows into rage. My thoughts are filled with unspeakable things that threaten to overtake me.
On my knees, I pray for the qualities that will release me forever from these harmful feelings and the destructive weight they bear on me. I pray for the quality to forgive____________ (name).
I do not have this power of forgiveness; I only know I must trust you to place in my soul the exact qualities I need to release this person and give them over to you, for you to do with them what you will. In this very moment, my heart is wide open to receive your gifts of the spirit.
My heart prays for the healing of ___________ (name) so they never do this to anyone again.
Free me, Oh God, and empower me to free _________ (name).
