Application of Spiritual Wisdom Part 3

Our soul child, our essence, is possibly the most open and receptive aspect of our soul. Being receptive is essential in receiving divine wisdom. As we go around the Enneagram learning the truth of each point, when we get to point five, we reach Sacred Wisdom, which includes our being transparent to Divine Wisdom. Transparencies allow light to pass through so that objects behind can be seen. One of the characteristics of the non-egoic soul child is their unobstructed perception of the other side. They use transparency all the time. The soul child may experience veils between themselves and reality, but the veils are transparent. In full ego, the veils are thick and heavy.

I remember my little brother when he was a soul child. One day, we were outside looking at leaves in the trees. Full of color and vibrancy, we could almost see the cells of each leaf. My brother was inspecting a leaf closely, showed me one, and said, “Look at the veins in this leaf; they look like the veins in my arm.” Trevor was open and receptive to what nature was teaching him. He was connecting the dots that the veins in all life carry the needed nutrients to the body. He saw that we were made like other forms of life. Of course, this laid the foundation for the concept of spiritual veins that send wisdom and love all through our bodies.

This is only one aspect of divine wisdom; there are billions. Another is the soul child’s receptivity to spirit. Children do not have to believe in the unseen; they know it exists. The ability to believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and other fictional characters lays the groundwork for our belief in the Divine, who is also unseen. Take adults who have memories of imaginary friends in early childhood. In my interviews with scores of individuals who had these experiences, not one of them said they thought their imaginary playmates were not real.

Essential trust is one of the soul qualities needed to receive and apply divine wisdom. This trust, receptivity, curiosity, humility, vulnerability, and transparency remove the veils between the unseen kingdom and our self-made, visible worlds. This trust comes naturally to the child. But we must transform ourselves back into the beings who trust as we did as a soul child. As Jesus said, we cannot enter the kingdom of heaven (consciousness) unless we return to and embody those original soul qualities.

Spiritual practice: Can you remember an instance, period, or relationship from early childhood in which you believed in the unseen? How near to you was the Divine at that time?

Self-inquiry: Why do you not think children are “unintelligent” if they believe in the unseen?

Prayer:

Dear God, Return me to that being who trusted without doubt. Amen
