The Heart Center of Intelligence Part 4

What if everything your heart clings to could be taken away tomorrow, except for one thing? While that isn’t true, it could be. But there is more to the story…

Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" (Matthew 6:21.) Our heart is strongly connected to what we hold most dear. For some of us, this is our children, our home, our extended family, our job, our motherhood, our fatherhood, our savings, our health, or a multitude of other things that are priceless to us.

The problem is that we can lose whatever we hold most dear. And the loss can break our heart, causing untold suffering. Jesus pointed out the critical link between our treasure and our heart. It follows then that our heart suffers greatly if we lose what we treasure.

What is the solution to the pain and suffering from a broken heart? Jesus had an answer for this too: “... store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal" (Matthew 6:20.) The only things that cannot be taken away from us are the treasures in heaven ... our spirits, our giving and receiving of love, our virtues, our souls, and our connection to the Divine. The heart that has a storehouse of these divine treasures will never be lost.

Self-inquiry: What do you most treasure? Why? And if you were to lose it, what would pull you through?

Prayer:

Dear God, I pray to treasure most, of all my soul’s relationship with you and your love that grows us and heals us. And I pray that the people of our world treasure you above all. Amen.
