Creativity Part 6

Someone I once knew said he likes coffee because it makes him feel creative. How could coffee make us more creative? Studies show that caffeine can remove barriers to creativity by improving concentration, enhancing focus, and increasing the ability to think divergently. But there are other ways we can remove obstacles to creativity.

One way is to carve out time for co-creation. Co-creation is a beautiful quality of the Soul. It means working side by side with the Creator—with the Divine. In co-creation, we acknowledge we are not creating alone but are coherent with Divine intelligence. To feel that intelligence, we remove ourselves from all distractions and become one with that intelligence.

We feel the creative flow in co-creating with Divine presence because we are directly connected to Divine power and creativity. But to enter Divine presence, we must be peaceful and invite that presence into our being. The presence is already in our being, but when we ask for it, we remember it is inside us.

The soul child is born in Divine presence. And it is possibly the most creative aspect of our soul. It does not have the constraints we adults impose on ourselves, nor does it place limitations on its play, fantasy life, or imagination. It is spontaneous, full of the boundless life force, and always in the flow. Author of the Enneagram of Personality, Oscar Ichazo, first gave us the concept of the soul child and adapted it to the Enneagram and the Holy Ideas (also called the Divine Forms). He calls it the Divine Child, and reports that the concept came from the early Greek philosophers.

The Divine Child or Soul Child is our essence and, therefore, our direct link to Divine Intelligence and creativity. Some of us avoid re-embodying our soul child. Some of us connect the inner child with immaturity, stubbornness, impetuousness, and self-centeredness. And these are certainly true of little kids. So, why would we want to revisit any of those traits? In truth those negative traits and foibles of early childhood are only surface characteristics of the child. The qualities of essence are also there, and she expresses them in in her innocence, unbridled creativity, and purity. Our mission in our soul's progression is to integrate the soul child into our Being. (See amalgamation in Know Your Soul.) When we do this, we naturally embody our essence’s creativity in all aspects of our lives.

Spiritual practice: Listen to “Episode 48 A Soul Child Meditation” in the ICB podcast “The Real Enneagram.” Do you feel more, the same, or less creative after the meditation?

Self-inquiry: Why are you curious about your soul child?

Dear God,

I pray to live from the qualities of my essence. Amen
