Seeing Things Part 6
Most of us do not “see things” in terms of being clairvoyant, but some people do have that gift. Yes, some people have the ability to transcend the ego’s reality, suspend it, and enter another realm. There is a family story about Lark’s great-great-grandfather, who worked as the comptroller for a large railroad in the 1800s. He was traveling on that railroad on a long-distance business journey out west when something very curious happened.
It was a stormy night, and in his sleeping compartment, he awoke with a start. He had dreamt that the train was headed for a large railway trestle that was washed away by the storm. The dream was so vivid and so alarming that he took his chances on being thought of as crazy and immediately made his way to the train’s engineer. The engineer took the dream seriously and stopped the train “in its tracks.” Through telegrams and other information gathered by the railroad, the bridge ahead had been washed away. If not for the dream and the engineer who believed it, all the passengers would have fallen to their deaths. The railway company rewarded Lark’s great-great-grandfather with a ceremony and a gold pocket watch.
Lark’s great-great-grandfather was known to be able to see things in the future, and it is reported that his gift was passed down to some of his children and from them to theirs. Psychologist and philosopher Carl G. Jung said that we all have abilities to sense things to greater or lesser extents. He called this ability the intuition function, which is part of our survival instinct. This instinct has evolved, and some of us have it to such a degree that we receive impressions about people and circumstances. Many times, these impressions are correct. Those who are clairvoyant have a super-developed intuitive function. But they may also have another source of information: the heart.
When we are confused or do not know where to turn, we can always drop into our hearts for the answer. Dropping into our hearts directly taps into the inner wisdom of our being. When supported by the soul, the heart center gives us access to our inner wisdom. When we drop into our hearts, we immediately know more of the truth. Discerning some dilemmas takes time. This is when our heart ponders the issue at hand. But in the end, the heart gives us the way forward.
Becoming acquainted with our heart is essential in understanding its messages to us. In Heartfulness meditation, we place our attention from our minds into our heart space. We then focus on the source of light within our hearts. This light draws us inward. Then, we imagine the entire heart and chest region filling with light, eventually filling the whole body. Heartfulness meditation develops the heart center of intelligence. So, when we drop into our hearts, we drop into familiar territory where we can better hear the truth.
Spiritual practice: Try dropping into your heart right now. Can you tell the change in yourself? If so, how would you describe the change? Now, ask your heart a question to which you’d like to know the answer. What do you receive? Does it sound like the truth?
Dear God,
I pray to develop my heart in all ways. Amen
