Prosperity Part 2
How does a soul prosper? A soul prospers as it grows in its true nature. This thought can be said another way: The soul grows as we amalgamate our ego with our essence. Consulting the Enneagram of Soul, we see that each soul point is the true nature of an ego. The nine soul points are: Sacred Righteousness or Alignment, Sacred Benevolence, Sacred Action, Sacred Creativity, Sacred Wisdom, Sacred Kinship, Sacred Joy, Sacred Power, and Sacred Loving Peace. A soul alive and unobscured pulses with these qualities, while a soul denied these qualities, becomes veiled, obscured, and therefore desolate.
But how does a soul receive and increase these qualities? The truth is, it does not have to receive them because they are already present within the soul. Our essence holds all nine Sacred Points, as well as all nine Holy Ideas. The soul carries all nine Virtues, but one is most specific to its nature. So, as a unique expression of a particular aspect of the Divine, each soul carries its own combination of strengths. In each of us, certain qualities shine more brightly, carrying more energy of the aspect of the Divine we were created to most express. We increase the energy and depth of our soul qualities through our spiritual practices. So, if we want to know what our truest nature is, we have only to know our Enneagram personality type and find its corresponding SOUL Type.
Each soul most deeply expresses one Sacred Point, while emphasizing one Holy Idea, manifesting one Essential Aspect, and carrying its Idealized Aspect. These dimensions form the groundwork of our purpose and even give rise to our ego type (see Know Your Soul, page 210.) However, because the Enneagram reflects the fluid and organic nature of being, it shows us that we spend a lifetime repeatedly migrating to or falling short of all nine soul points. In our millions of trips around the Enneagram, hopefully we embody as much as we can of those points’ spiritual aspects.
The Enneagram is a map for our journey into wholeness. Its purpose is not to study our personality to build more of it or to see others as a personality type. It is a method by which we can know, honor, and live from our true nature. A tool for greater spiritual consciousness, the Enneagram shows us the particular block between us and our true nature. When we realize what stands between us and consciousness, we experience our spiritual essence and live out of it. This also affords us the opportunity to experience the essence of others. It is a game changer.
The prosperity of the soul can be measured in two ways: by the intensity of its felt presence, and by the quality of its manifestation in real life. As scripture reminds us: “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in good health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3 John 1:2).
Spiritual practice: How would you describe the intensity of your soul when it is not obscured by the veils of ego, superego, or the id?
Self-inquiry: In what ways do you most clearly manifest the qualities of your soul?
Prayer: Dear God, As I face and deal with its obscurations, I pray for my soul to shine more and more brightly. Amen.
