Peace Part 7

One of the most effective ways of reconnecting with our peace is through the spoken word. When disheartened or afraid, our unchecked ego mind can work overtime to help us feel better. Depending on our ego type and stress level, it may tell us many things — all the way from “Don’t worry” to “You are doomed.” But many times, in overwhelming fear and discouragement, our ego’s efforts don’t work. If fear and negativity get a foothold, it’s very hard for others to comfort us. If something doesn’t happen to relieve the situation, we can move toward panic and depression. When we’re completely out of touch with our peace, it’s time for the soul to take over.

How can the soul override anxious ego chatter and debilitating anxiety? It does so by entering our body. And one of the best ways the soul can fill every cell of our being is through the spoken word. When we speak truth to the power of fear, we reconnect to our inner peace, our most natural state. How can this be possible? Our lungs, muscles, and organs support our spoken voice. Our body vibrates with our voiced expression. And when we say a thought out loud with conviction, our heart, mind, and body align.

By saying a conviction aloud, we empower it — and so much so that it silences our ego’s chatter. In treating people with mental and nervous disorders for forty years, I can attest to the power of the person’s spoken word. When people give voice to their self-affirmations, confidence levels rise, self-assurance increases, and hope is instilled. The person becomes their best advocate instead of being full of self-doubt. When the person is on their own team for recovery, they make more rapid progress.

A powerful affirmation is, “I am loved and lovable” and another is, “Every day I am getting better, and better, and better.” The affirmation can be tailor-made for the person’s challenge. An example is: “What others think of me matters little compared to my getting the message out.” These verbalizations are ways that the soul can override the unchecked ego’s messages. Jesus himself often verbally rebuked any challenge to his mission, intention, and authority. (Mark 4:8-11, Matthew 4:10, Luke 4: 8)

Spiritual practice: Having self-doubt and a lack of confidence in our self-worth can set us back in our spiritual growth. Do you have any doubts that get in the way of your wellness and health? Does your ego send you any messages that diminish your peace and confidence? If so, formulate an affirmation that contradicts the self-doubt. Now state that affirmation in a clear, convicted voice. What is the result? Do you have more peace, less peace, or the same amount of peacefulness?

Self-inquiry: Why would you believe your unchecked ego who messages you with self-doubt?

Dear God,

For the power of voice, I am truly thankful, and I pray for the ability to make affirmations that bring the truth into the center. Amen
