Obstacles Part 1
Please join us for this week’s Reflections on “Obstacles.”
When I was working toward a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, I wondered how I would master the courses in higher mathematics and statistics. I had trouble with Algebra in high school, so I did not know how I would ever pass the higher math courses facing me now. This was a huge obstacle in fulfilling my dream of becoming a psychologist.
I prayed, “God, you allowed me to be accepted in this degree program ... now how are you going to get me through the math? I know that you want me to be a clinical psychologist, so I am going to trust you in this. Give me the faith I need. Amen."
To my astonishment, I passed courses in statistical analysis, the content of which I did not fully understand. I was even able to apply the math to my dissertation. I was humbled and amazed that God created a way when there seemed to be no way.
There is a spiritual principle involved in this example: “Trusting Divine Order.” Once we have the green light from God, on a larger concern, issue, or plan, we are under a divine umbrella. And we can be assured all the pieces will come together. It is not up to us to worry about how the plan is to unfold. We may not know how something will be accomplished or when, but we know that we are in alignment with the Divine about the larger issue. In alignment, we trust that a way will be made even when there seems to be no way. Obstacles may try our patience, yet in co-creation with the Divine, we move forward.
Spiritual practice: What obstacles do you need a way through? Write a prayer from your heart asking for an alignment with God’s power over this obstacle.
Self-inquiry: What part of your soul may be thankful for some obstacles?
Prayer: Dear God, Thank you for divine power that defies the limitations of the human mind. Thank you for giving us our purpose and granting us the divine power to conquer our obstacles. Amen.
