Meetings with Remarkable People Part 7
What remarkable persons will you meet in the future? Who will come into your life to provide the guidance, words, insight, inspiration, and opportunity you need at that specific time? We cannot know who it will be, but we have some leverage in determining when and how it happens.
For example, we may need help in a particular area. It could be an immediate problem, such as a financial difficulty or a long-standing issue we have just become conscious of. It could be something about our own approaches or assumptions that we now realize are inaccurate. We know we cannot continue on the same path, but we do not have the information, wisdom, or know-how to move through the world differently. So, we say to ourselves, “If only there were someone to open my eyes, to guide me, to give me what I need in this situation.”
This is when we use our spiritual quality of alignment with the Divine. This quality is found at Point One on the Enneagram of Soul and is called Sacred Righteousness. This is the point at which we give up our idea (our ego’s idea) of what is right and then align with Sacred Righteousness. To spiritually align ourselves with the Divine, we simply ask, “Oh Divine Love, I pray for the circumstances and the remarkable person or persons I need now.”
Prayers of relinquishment open our souls to what will come next.
The person hasn’t entered our lives before our prayer of relinquishment because our ego is picturing someone or some situation WE think will fill the need. Our ego resists going out of its box to consider other approaches or people because it’s already settled on the type of person that fits its niche. But once we align with the sacred, we become open to all the possibilities out there, which our ego would never have considered.
Once we release the ego’s ideas, things happen. But if our ladder is leaning against the wrong wall, and what we are asking for is not ultimately the best for us, nothing will likely happen. This is when we ask for guidance in pursuing other places upon which to lean our ladders.
Sometimes, we are given these remarkable people before we know we need them. And it is only in hindsight that we realize how crucial they were to our progress. An older couple “adopted” Lark and me when we were a newly married couple living in another state far away from our families. This remarkable couple’s children were grown and gone, so George and Marguerite included us on holidays and in activities they were involved in. Our association with our parental surrogates was deep and rich. They gave us many experiences and wisdom just by our being around the two of them. Their children, a young man and a young lady, were wonderful people we eventually got to know. Marguerite and George adopted them as babies. Little did we know that we were being prepared for our own adopted babies to arrive in our arms several years later.
Spiritual practice: Pray for a remarkable person or circumstance to enter your life to fulfill a need. See what happens.
Self-inquiry: Who has been a remarkable person to you, someone you needed but didn’t know you needed?
Dear God,
We are truly grateful for all you give, even before we know we need it. In your name, Amen
