Meditation as a Spiritual Practice Part 7

A guided meditation for you:

Relax your body and gently close your eyes while you experience the calming spirit of God. Breathe deeply into your chest and exhale out of your mouth three times. Take a big breath and repeat the spiritual word “Om” until you must regain your breath.

Imagine yourself sitting beside a tranquil pond with a small waterfall. Dip your cupped hands into the pure water and bring them to your mouth to drink. Taste its thirst-quenching sweetness. As the cool water goes down your throat into your stomach, you are aware that you are one with yourself, the natural world around you and the universe.

Be aware of the light in your heart calling you inward. Let the light fill your chest and connect you to your soul. Let the light fill every cell of your body in your chest, below and above your chest.

Shed yourself of all concerns. Feel the absence of tension in your body.

If your mind wanders, just follow your breath back to yourself.

In your mind’s eye, watch the birds flutter around the area and look at the light as it interplays on the leaves moving in the breeze. Listen to the melodious chirping of the birds. You are surrounded by music.

You stretch out on a warm rock as if it were a warm bed. On the rock you feel your connection to the earth and you are centered within.

As you focus on your chest, you breathe in rhythm with your heartbeat and, in your memory, you review a time when you felt most loved, wanted, and needed. Now as you watch that internal movie, feel again the absolute beauty of that time and the people who loved you so. Bask in reliving those moments in the present. As you go deeper, allow your soul to bring you the thoughts, impressions, and sensations it wants for you right now. Stay here as long as you wish.

When the time to end the meditation comes around, breathe deeply, gently open your eyes, and with soft eyes, adjust to the physical location you are in.

You have just been in another state in which the ego was not in control. You have been in an inner sanctum of your soul. Stay in this condition as long as you can.

Spiritual practice: After doing the exercise for yourself, try reading the meditation for someone else who wants to try this type of guided meditation.

Self-inquiry: What in the meditation did you experience or were you shown?

Prayer:

Dear God, In the center of my being, I know you are there. I am comforted by your presence. I pray that I may live from that pond and that rock all day long. Amen.
